Frequently asked questions

What is the current PPF interest rate?
The PPF interest rate is set by the government every quarter. The current rate (2025) is 7.1% per annum. Interest is credited annually on 31 March and is completely tax-free.
What is the maximum PPF deposit limit?
The maximum annual contribution to a PPF account is ₹1,50,000 (₹1.5 lakh). The minimum is ₹500 per year. Contributions can be made in lump sum or up to 12 installments per year.
How is PPF maturity calculated?
PPF compounds annually. Balance = (Previous balance + Annual contribution) × (1 + rate). After 15 years, you can withdraw the full balance tax-free. Extensions are available in 5-year blocks.
Is PPF tax free?
Yes. PPF follows the EEE (Exempt-Exempt-Exempt) tax status — contributions qualify for Section 80C deduction, interest earned is tax-free, and maturity proceeds are completely tax-free.
